Short biography

Jennifer is a Partner Research Manager at Microsoft Research Redmond and the Samuel Conte Chair Professor of Computer Science and Statistics at Purdue University. Her research focuses on machine learning for structured and interactive settings, including relational data, social networks, and interactive AI systems. She is particularly interested in representation learning, statistical bias, and aligning AI behavior with user intent and preferences. Her work has produced over 130 publications with more than 10,000 citations. Her awards include an NSF CAREER Award (2012), ICDM Best Paper (2009), and IEEE’s “10 to Watch in AI” (2008). She has served as program chair or associate chair for top conferences in ML, AI, and data mining, including AAAI, NeurIPS, IJCAI, SIAM Data Mining, and ACM Web Search and Data Mining. She was an elected member of the AAAI Executive Council (2015–2018) and a member of the DARPA Computer Science Study Group (2007–2008).
